Porgy is a Native American name for fertilizer, which was one of the fish's many uses during colonial times
in the United States. The porgy is also called the seabream. The most commercially important members of this family are the
red and yellow seabream, although many other varieties are harvested around the world.
Porgys are a great starter for young kids
, and the grown ups love this fish too ,,, If you going to plan your first porgy trip , August and September
are the best times ,, porgys cover the Sheepshead Bay area. Any light rod and Reel will do fine ,, Tie your hooks close to
the bottom as possiable ,, for bait you can use Skimmers calms , Sand worms, peices of Squid , Cast your line Out as far as
you can cast ,
I preffer to hold my rod tites and wait for the strikes ,, Porgy will hit 3 times , then gulp in the Bait
.. The bites are very hard because they will pick up the bait and try to run with it ,,, If you use a very ligth rod theses
guys can give your rod a good pull ,, (( johnnybeefs))
