Tying my own Fishfinder Rigs: by Johnnybeefs

fishfinderrig.gif

Every Surf fishermen I ever fished with has a different way of setting up their Fish Finder Rigs, And depending on my mood so do I . Different sizes and styles of hooks, weather a Slip Sinker or a tied loop knot for a pyramid sinker! read more...

PATERNOSTERS

A very common rig used by surf casters and boat anglers . How you attach the snood is a matter of personal opinion but the bait must rest on the sea bed. Tilt the rig at an angle to check. I like to jam a swivel between two beads. The swivel and link swivel can be replaced by a link if you wish. I prefer swivels as they allow the rig to roll in to gullies and holes more easily. A short snood length often results in fish hooking themselves more easily but a long snood looks more natural. Possible to attach several snoods but tangling a problem. Using weaker line for the snood allows the hook to break free if snagged. The use of booms keeps the rig from tangling but decreases the naturalness and cast distance.

How to build a Rope Gaff ;

Theses rope gaffs are great for spots where you can,t get the fish up out of the water like with bridges, high docks, and big rock Jettys.

heres what you will need to build one : you need a long rope , try for something thin with a good holding power of at least 30 lbs ,, some guys use crab trap ropes ,,, you also need a swivel snap with a wide open ring (see picture below) and a weighted treble hook . ( see picture below) and split ring in large size,,

How to place it all together :

tie one end of rope to the weigthed treble hook. in the same hole as the rope place a snapped swivel only tie the non snap side to the terble hook (i use a split ring to join them)  ,,, leave the snap side empty .

How to use : once you get your fish close enough to the dock or pier ,, snap the swival over your line .. let go of it and it will slide down your line to the fishes mouth ,, pull up on your rod a bit this makes the fishes mouth open and the treble hooks will go in his mouth ,, gave the gaff rope a good tug and this set the treble hook in ,,,, now you can lift your heavy fish up by using the rope instead of your rod line ,,,
